The publishers of 2004 edition of La Guía MMIV, la guía roja de nuestros mejores vinos (“The Red Guide to Spain’s Best Wines”) invited 35 of the best winemakers in Spain, those whose wines had been awarded the most Red Seals in this year’s edition of the Guide.

The sumptuous Hotel Palace in Madrid was the setting for this year’s Spanish Wine Experience on 12 November, celebrating the diversity, quality and complexity of contemporary Spanish winemaking.

The Spanish Wine Experience is the equivalent in Spain of events such as the Tre Bicchieri organised by the Italian Gambero Rosso wine guides, Wine Spectator’s New York Wine Experience or Decanter’s Fine Wine Encounter in London. Among others, we enjoyed the company of such international luminaries as Jancis Robinson (Financial Times), Professor Pierre Casamayor (La Revue des Vins de France), André Dominé, German journalist, writer and editor, and A. Craig Copetas of Bloomberg News in Paris.

More than 1,600 guests were able to taste some of Spain’s most spectacular and distinctive contributions to fine wine.

The Guide’s editorial team has tasted 6,000 wines from all over Spain this year, selecting 646 for the 2004 edition. These will be available for sale for purchase through TodoVino. Just over a third of those selected for the Guide have been awarded a Red Seal rating, ranging from one to three Red Seals. The highest distinction, three Red Seals, has been awarded to just 34 wines. These extraordinary wines are truly world-class.
